Ingredients

  • Basmati Rice – 1 cup
  • Salt – a generous pinch
  • Water – as required
  • Oil – a dash

Method

  1. Wash and soak the basmati rice for a half-hour. Drain the water and keep aside. The first method is called the “Draining Method”. Boil 1lt of water and add a generous pinch of salt and a dash of oil to it. Add soaked and drained rice to the boiling water and turn the flame to high. Boil the rice till it just gets tender. Turn off the heat and place a sieve over a bowl. Drain the entire rice into the strainer. Lift the strainer and shake off any excess water. Spread the rice on a platter and serve. The second method of boiling rice is “Absorption Method”. In a pan add 2 cups of water, a generous pinch of salt and a dash of oil. Bring it to a boil and add the rice. Cook till it again gets a rumbling boil. Now lower the heat and cover and cook for 12-15 mins or till the rice absorbs all the water and is cooked. Using a fork fluff up the rice and serve hot.
