Difference between Corn flour & Corn Starch

-   Maize and corn are one and the same thing.

  • In culinary language we usually use the word corn like popcorn, corn flour, corn starch, roasted corn, baby corn, sweet corn etc. Usually when refering to the crop or trading in it, the word Maize is used
  • Mexico developed corn at least 7000 years ago using the wild grass called “Teosinte” which was abundant in Mexico.
  • Christopher Colombus set out to find a route to India and he ended up discovering the Americas. He saw the local inhabitants eating corn and brought it back to Europe and from there it spread to the rest of the world.

 

  • Difference between cornflour and cornstarch is that corn flour is made by drying whole corn and making a powder of it. So Makki ka atta is cornflour, Jisse Makki ki roti Banti hai.

  • Where as corn starch is obtained from the white starchy endosperm of the corn kernel. Corn starch is used to thicken sauces and soups. Also it is used as an adhesive and for baby powders and corn syrup.
